She fell ill during the session of the Lok Sabha, where she was eager to get her Food Security Bill passed, which was then in the final step of adoption. Congress President Sonia Gandhi developed sudden pain in her chest due to her continuously sitting in Parliament that gave exhaustion to her, even though she was advised to take rest and avoid any tension since she had been suffering from viral fever since Sunday.
She probably ignored the doctor’s advice, and felt sudden pain in her chest, giddiness, cough and headache while sitting in Parliament.
As a result, she was admitted to AIIMS, taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as a precautionary measure before she was shifted to the cardio-neuro centre; she spent around five hours there, and was ultimately discharged from there after her check-up was completed. AIIMS permitted her to go home after necessary checkup and to their full satisfaction.
A senior doctor at AIIMS also confirmed, “She had cough and headache. After taking medicines she felt uneasiness in Parliament. We put the entire test required for such symptoms and found her normal, and hence she left in her own car talking to all the doctors, and thanking all of us.”
In this regard, party General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi said:
” Congress president Sonia Gandhi has come back; she is all right and her medical check-up has been completed.”
