Land War between Keral CM and Tata takes a serious turn
MIL/Agencies, Jul 6, 2007.

Thiryuvananthapuram,(Kerala): July 06, 2007 (Friday) – The war between Tata and Chief Minister V S Achutanandan have taken a serious turn.  The govt. publicity against TATA seems to have been accelerated on the land issue.

The State Revenue Minister K P Rajendran of the CPI  told the assembly on Thursday  that the land which was reclaimed under the supervision of VS a few days back in Munnar was actually forest land and was not in the possession of Tata's as claimed earlier, but TATA refuted the charges.

The land war looks to have turned to a much publicized 'war' against the Tata's. The govt. feels that the land has been encroached by Tata  but their Special Adviser to Tata Tea T Damu had denied this and said the land belonged to the forest department.

The govt. claims that the 1280 acres land reclaimed on Tuesday was part of the 70,522 acres of land taken over by the government under the Kannan Devan Hills Redemption of Land Act, 1971.

It is all a political game against TATA.

Thursday's statement from the Revenue Minister came as a shot in the arm for Tata. "We have all along been saying that we have not encroached any land in Munnar. Today the revenue minister said the same thing. We are happy that the truth has come out," T Damu told TOI. He also criticized the CM's for making a statement threatening to cancel the title deeds if Tata went to court against the reclamation. "This is denying us our fundamental right. How can a chief minister who has taken oath as per the constitution say such a thing?," he exclaimed.

Political activity, meanwhile, picked up over the revenue minister's statement with the opposition alleging that the government had plunged into utter chaos and lost its right to rule.

Observers, however, feel there is more to Rajendran's statement than what meets the eye as it could not have come without the blessing of the CPI's top leadership. Irked by the Munnar operations, the party they say was waiting for a chance to embarrass the CM.

The red partner's misery only aggravated with the special task force overseeing the Munnar drive demolishing a part of the CPI office in the valley claiming it encroached on NH land.
