Digamber Kamat takes oath as new CM of Goa

Panaji: June 8, 2007 - The leadership crisis in the State has ended with Mr Digamber Kamat choosen as consensus candidate for the post of Chief Ministership. The Congress after 72 hours of the election results is all set to form the government in the state with it’s allies Nationalist Congress with three members, MG Party with two MLAs and the two independents.
Late night Power Minister Digamber Kamat was selected to be the Chief Minister and was sworn in as the 16th chief minister of the Goa State this afternoon along with three of his colleagues.
Governor S C Jamir administered the oaths of office and secrecy to Kamat at the Raj Bhavan.
State Congress chief Ravi Naik, the prime contender for the chief minister's post, Nationalist Congress Party's Jose Piliphe D'Souza and Maharashtrawadi Gomatak Party's (MGP) Ramakrishna alias Sudin Dhavalikar were also sworn-in as cabinet ministers.
Though it was agreed during initial discussions that the deputy chief minister's would be given to the NCP, party leaders are yet to formally announce the person who will hold this post.
 In a forty member assembly the Congress led ruling coalition is now with 23 members on its side.
