Interesting, warning, precautions, how to save New York’s major airport?
MIL/Agencies, Jun 4, 2007.

June 4, 2007 – Interesting, warning, precautions, how to save New York? If you go through this story, one thing shall be clear that the authoities themselves guide the terrorists how to attack and destroy New York and other importnt cities.

It’s a plot straight from the disaster movie genre. Destroy New York's major airport, its erminals, and even parts of the borough of Brooklyn in one dastardly explosion.

Unfortunately for the alleged plotters, the real life Jack Bauers (of 24 fame) were ahead of the ticking bomb. Not only was the idea outlandish and highly unlikely to succeed, but authorities have been recording the conversations of the plotters for the past 18 months.

US authorities claim to have foiled the plot, which, in the words of one of the alleged ringleaders, would have caused "greater destruction than in the September 11 attacks" and devastated the US economy.

Four men are alleged to have plotted to blow up fuel pipelines and tanks and terminal buildings at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport. According to the FBI, the four suspects had conducted surveillance of the airport using photographs and satellite images downloaded from Google Earth. One of the men was a retired cargo handler from the airport.

Another was Abdul Kadir, a former mayor of a Guyanese town and a former member of the Guyanese Parliament. Kadir was arrested in Trinidad after a Venezuelan-bound plane in which he was a passenger was turned around in mid-air. His wife has denied he was involved in any terrorist plot.

He is said to have been helping the former cargo handler, Russell Defreitas, 63, organise the planning and secure financing for the attack. Defreitas, who sells books on street corners and exports broken air-conditioners to Guyana, was arraigned in a Brooklyn court and denied bail.

A third man, Kareem Ibrahim, was arrested in Trinidad. A fourth, Abdel Nur, is at large, thought to be in Trinidad.

There was no connection to al-Qaeda, officials said, but some suspects were linked to an Islamist extremist group in Trinidad.

Defreitas was allegedly recorded by an FBI informant as saying that JFK airport, which is New York's major international airport and handles 45 million passengers a year, was targeted because it would put "the whole country in mourning".

"It's like, you can kill the man twice," Defreitas allegedly said, who also boasted he had been taught bomb-making in Guyana.

US attorney Roslynn Mauskopf said it was one of the most chilling plots imaginable: "The devastation that would be caused had this plot succeeded is just unthinkable."
