Sirsa, India: May 23, 2007 - Swami Agnivesh, on behalf of All Religions Delegation has assured today that both sides had softened their stand which has risen sincere hope for a solution of the conflict between the Sikh clergy and the Dera Sacha Sauda (DSS). The four member delegation first had talks with the Dera management in a city hotel and then came to the Dera to hold talks with its chief. The other members of the delegation were Jain Muni, Lokesh Parkash, Maulana Jamal Ahmed Ilyasi and Father Phillip. The discussions' which started at about 1500 hrs, continued till 0100 hrs last night. Though Swami Agnivesh did not disclose whether the Dera chief had agreed to apologize for his alleged act of projecting himself as Guru Gobind Singh, he said modalities of an agreement were being worked out. While the Takht had demanded an apology from the Sacha Sauda chief for his ''blasphemous'' act, the Dera had earlier refused to apologize and maintained that it had already expressed regret over the issue. Swami Agnivesh said negotiation efforts were approved by SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar and at the same time he denied that the government was behind the negotiation. Dr. Raj Baldev, Chief of the National Integration Assembly (NIA) hailed this talk in New Delhi and expressed hope of the right solution. He said, “It is essential for the Sikh community to sink in their differences and find out an agreeable solution in the general interest of the community at large.”
