Burning effigy of Sucha Sauda Dera led to 15 injured in Punjab clash
MIL/Agencies, May 20, 2007.

The situation about Sucha Sauda Dera affair is deteriorating.A group of over 200 Sikh protesters tried to burn an effigy of Sacha Sauda Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh which led to a clash with followers of the sect on Monday that forced police to resort to cane charge and use of water cannon to disperse the angry  groups.

At least 15 people were seriously hurt while a dozen others sustained minor injuries. The protesters were agitating against reports that the chief had shown up dressed like the 10th Sikh Guru Gobind Singh at a public function at Dera Salabatpura here on Friday.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has asked the Patiala Zonal IG to conduct an inquiry into the violence.

NIA Chairman Dr. Raj Baldev, famous Cosmo Theorist from India and noted Social Reformer, said in New Delhi in the Executive Committee Meeting today that though Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has asked the Patiala Zonal IG to conduct an inquiry into the violence, it is a not enough.

Dr. Raj Baldev added, “The situation is worsening.  He should use his good offices to pacify the situation in Punjab. Such clashes are against the right spirit of Sikhism, they are the backbone of Indian democratic force  and should not be allowed to be weakened at any cost.

“Sacha Sauda Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Chief has already expressed his sorrow which amounts to an apology and as such the angry group against this sect should help restore normalcy in the State, Dr. Raj Baldev said.
