MIL/Agencies, May 14, 2007.
May 14 2004 - As per reports from within the DMK party, the Indian Union Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dayanidhi Maran, has quit the Cabinet as well as the party. He submitted his papers yesterday, following a bitter fight within the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party.
As per reports, the DMK issued a show-cause notice on Dayanidhi Maran on Sunday evening asking him why he should not be removed from the primary membership of the party. The DMK also passed a resolution authorizing party chief, M Karunanidhi, to take 'strict action' against him on the grounds of his anti party activities.
Yesterday in late hours, Dayanidhi Maran (40), faxed his resignation to the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, and to DMK Chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M Karunanidhi, from Udhagamandalam (Ooty), where he had been holidaying over the weekend.
In his resignation, Maran said, "If my exit from the party and the cabinet would please my party leader and his family, I am only too happy to do so," sources close to him said.
Maran is likely to meet Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, in New Delhi this evening, the sources added.
