Mayawati on the seat of power
MIL/Agencies, May 12, 2007.
Lucknow: May 12, 2007 - After getting an absolute majority in the Uttar Pradesh state assembly, BSP supremo Mayawati shall meet the party MLAs to day to formally get her elected as the BSP legislature party leader so as to become the Chief Minister.
Thereafter, Mayawati shall call on the governor T V Rajeswar to discuss the date and venue of the swearing-in ceremony.
With the term of the outgoing Assembly expiring on May 14, a new government has to be in place by then.
The newly elected BSP legislators have started gathering in the state capital since early morning after being directed by the leadership. The BSP scored a thumping victory winning 206 out of 402 seats to usher in single party rule after 14 years.
The meeting of the legislature party will be held at the party office in the state capital.
The complete results of the assembly elections were also likely to be sent to the Election Commission by the returning officers from the districts by this evening.
Once all results were available, the Commission would be sending them to the Governor after which a notification would be issued for constitution of the 15th Assembly.
In all likelihood, the swearing in ceremony would take place at the sprawling Ambedkar Maidan keeping in view the possibility of a large number of BSP supporters thronging the state capital from different parts of the state.
Though the date of the swearing in ceremony has not yet been fixed it could take place either tomorrow or the day after, sources said here.
Senior police officials including state DGP G L Sharma held a meeting to discuss the security arrangments for the swearing in ceremony.
Necessary directions have been issued to make fool proof arrangments as a large crowd was expected at the ceremony, sources said.
BSP sources said that along with Mayawati, some other ministers could also be administered oath of office and secrecy as per PTI.
