Patna, May 10, 2007 - Even as the police continued the search for six-year-old Ankit, kidnapped from Alamganj on April 12, amid hopes of his being alive with his servant retracting his earlier confession of having killed the boy, yet another boy was kidnapped in Bihar.
Seven-year-old Gopichand was kidnapped from his house at village Rasoolpur in Bihar's Siwan district on Wednesday night, police sources said.
The boy belongs to an affluent family. His father Premchand lodged a complaint with the Gharaunda police station alleging that his son was kidnapped by the notorious 'VIP Yadav' gang for ransom. All entry and exit points of the Siwan district were sealed and raids continued to rescue Gopichand, the sources said.
Meanwhile, Balram Paswan, kidnapper of Ankit, who had on Wednesday confessed to having killed the boy and buried the body on the banks of river Saryu in Saran district, withdrew his confession and said 'Ankit is still alive', according to senior superintendent of police Kundan Krishnan.
"Ankit is still alive and his guess that his friend Sanjay Rajak, whom he had handed over him after kidnapping, killed him is incorrect," Balram told police after he was subjected to intense grilling when the body of the boy could not be recovered from the bank of the river after digging operations.
Ankit, a prep class student, was last seen by another student having ice-cream with an unidentified man outside his school on April 12.
