Wreckage of African airliner found; no survivors
MIL/Agencies, May 7, 2007.

May 7, 2007 - The wreckage of a Kenya Airways plane, which disappeared over the weekend after taking off from Cameroun, has been found. Pieces of fuselage, and a number of bodies, were discovered in a Mangrove forest close to Douala airport.

The new Boeing 737-800 had taken off from there en route to Nairobi on Saturday night. 114 people from 27 countries, including five Britons, were on board when it went down in torrential rain.

There are not thought to be any survivors. The airline has opened crisis centres in both Douala and Nairobi airport. It said most of the passengers were due to transfer onto flights to Europe and the Middle East.

Members of Executive Committee of National Integration Assembly (NIA) have observed two minute silence here todayto pay homage to the passengers of the Kenya Airways plane, which crashed near Douala airport.
