New Delhi, December 03, 2012 – News n Analysis by Dr. Raj Baldev, Cosmo Theorist on Mayawati’s new card likely to play in Rajaya Sabha on FDI Issue.Mulayam Singh Yadav may also spoil the Govt.game.
Just a day before discussion takes place on FDI in retail in Lok Sabha, there seems to be a new kink in the story.
As per Sources in anonoymity, there is a strong possibility that Ms. Mayawati, Chief of the Bahujan Samaj Party may prevent any debate on FDI in the Rajya Sabha. She looks to have quota bill in her mind which she would like to get through.
There is no doubt about Mayawati’s BSP which can also stall the Rajya Sabha over the issue of SC/ST quota in promotions in government jobs. On the contrary, Mulayam Singh Yadav is against the quota.
On this issue,Mr. Ram Gopal Yadav, is believed to have said their party shall vote against FDI in retail in the Rajya Sabha:
“We will vote against the government in the Rajya Sabha and there can be a different stand in both the Houses.”
The Lok Sabha shall take up the debate on FDI in retail in Rajya Sabha on two days, Tuesday and Wednesday, in the Rajya Sabha. Since the Govt. lacks the requisite number of members in Rajya Sabha, if the bill fails, politically the Govt. shall have to feel small.
However, Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Kamal Nath is confident on behalf of the Govt. that it would get through successfully. His words to the effect that he said during his talk with CNN-IBN’s Karan Thapar:
“I have a good reason to believe because I believe that they are a responsible party. They will understand the politics of it and they are not going to vote for the politics of the BJP.”
In my analytic view, the govt. risk does stand in Rajya Sabha.
