U K sailors were treated like slaves
MIL/Agencies, Apr 7, 2007. IR Sources/Zeenews.com

London, April 7, 2007 - The 15 British sailors and marines who were seized by Iran in the Gulf last month narrated their pathetic story on Friday. They were, in fact, treated like slaves.

The unfortunate soldiers and sailors were blindfolded, kept in isolation and were repeatedly given a constant psychological pressure with repeated warning that they were to face jail for seven years.

Since they were captured, their jail was confirmed irrespective of the fact whether they did anything criminal or not, this is their law according to their officers. They made them to realize the extent of torture, how Iran used to treat the prisoners during Khomeni’s era.

They issued a joint statement that they were under constant psychological pressure and threatening.

"We were interrogated most nights and given two options. If we admitted that we had strayed, we would be back on a plane to the UK pretty soon. If we didn`t, we faced up to seven years in prison," they warned.

They heard weapons being cocked behind them and feared the worst as per the reports of the Zeenews.com.

The sole woman among the group, Faye Turney, was kept isolated for several days and told by her captors that the others had been freed and gone home.

The sailors and marines were released in Tehran on Thursday after a tense 13-day stand off and flown back to Britain for an emotional reunion with their families.

The sailors` description of their captivity was in sharp contrast to the images of them smiling on Iranian television. Those images were an Iranian "media stunt", they said on Friday.

After their arrest in the Gulf, the sailors and marines were taken to a prison in Tehran. "We were blindfolded, our hands were bound, we were forced up against a wall," they said in their statement.

They were "stripped and dressed in pajamas ... we were kept in stone cells, approximately 8 feet by six, sleeping on piles of blankets. All of us were kept in isolation."

They insisted they had been arrested in Iraqi waters and answered accusations that they should not have surrendered so readily.

Dr. Raj Baldev, Chairman, National Integration Assembly (NIA) condemned the mistreatment meted out to the 15 British sailors and urged the Prime Minister Tony Blair to condemn the misbehavior on the part of Iran, rather than to show the pride on their culture, as he has thrown praise in their favor.  Is it the culture to mistreat the British sailors like slaves?
