New Delhi, February, 20, 2007 - Even as the Congress prepares the ground for slapping President’s rule in Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party on Monday intensified its efforts to thwart the Congress game plan by taking the matter to the Rashtrapati Bhawan. A Samajwadi Party delegation is scheduled to meet President APJ Abdul Kalam here on Tuesday to apprise him of its fears about an impending central intervention in Uttar Pradesh. The party, at the same time, reiterated its resolve to prove its strength on the floor of the state Assembly on February 26. “Until and unless you come up with a solid proof, you cannot say that there has been horse-trading.
If you want to defeat us, do it on the floor of the house on the anointed day,’’ asserted Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh.
The entire drama in Uttar Pradesh, Mr Singh alleged, was being scripted by the Congress to prevent the MLAs and MLCs belonging to the state from participating in the presidential elections to be held later this year.
“The Left-Samajwadi Party blockwill play a crucial role in the presidential polls by virtue of their respective strengths in the Lok Sabha and state Assemblies. The biggest state in the country will not be allowed to participate in the process to elect the new president. This is highly objectionable,’’ the Samajwadi Party leader said.
Mr Singh claimed that he was making his charge on the basis of credible reports emanating from the Raj Bhawan: ``We’ve information to suggest that governor T V Rajeswar wants the state government dismissed and President’s rule imposed for at least six months.’’
The Samajwadi Party leader accused Congress president Sonia Gandhi of hobnobbing with the `communal’ BJP to bring about the downfall of the Mulayam Singh government as per Economic Times.
