Manmohan Singh, India’s PM warns communal forces

Patiala, February 6, 2007 - Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is pained to know that parochial forces were raising their head and trying to divide the country. Dr. Raj Baldev, Chairman, National Integration Assembly (NIA) appreciated the gesture of the Prime Minister and said that the National Integration Assembly and all national forces stand united to support the call of the Prime Minister.
Mr. Manmohan Singh said "communal forces" were trying to divide the people on the basis of religion and caste. He also cautioned the people against giving any support to terrorist forces in the state, which had faced extremism for almost a decade between the mid 80s and the 90s.
Addressing an election meeting in the constituency of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, the Prime Minister noted that the country and Punjab were braving a fight between two ideologies - Congress and "commun"While the biggest fight for the Congress is to eradicate poverty and unemployment, some communal forces always tried to divide the community on the basis of religion and caste," he said.
"There is a lot of scope for textile, sports, garment and leather industry in the state," Singh said adding in the interest of development of the state people should not allow terrorist forces to emerge as per PTI.
