Ash in Vindhyavasini Temple with Abhishek
MIL/Agencies, Jan 27, 2007.

Vindhyanchal, January 27, 2007- : Bollywood heartthrob Abhishek Bachchan and his fiancée and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai on Saturday witnessed the wedding ceremony of as many as 51 couples in Vindhyavasini Temple.

Aishwarya became the cynosure of all eyes by sporting a ‘sindoor’ on her forehead, which according to reports, was put by Abhishek himself. The duo reportedly offered special prayers in the temple. The event coincides with Amitabh Bachchan’s close friend Amar Singh’s 51st birthday.

The priest who performed the ‘puja ceremony’ informed the reporters that contrary to the rumours, Aishwarya and Abhishek did not get married, rather a special ritual was performed to remove ‘mangal dosh’ from Aishwarya’s horoscope chart.

The recently engaged couple reached here via Varanasi, accompanied by Amitabh Bachchan and Samajwadi Party MP Amar Singh. Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav is also present in the temple to attend the ceremony.

Elaborate security arrangements were in place at the Vindhyavasini Temple in Mirzapur district where a large number of people turned up to have a glimpse of the stars, particularly Abhishek and Aishwarya.

Bachchan family, along with others paid obeisance at the temple and blessed 51 couples from poor families who tied nupital knots at a function.

A grand pandal was made near the temple for the mass marriages and feast for about 4,000 people.
