Sivaji Award for Kamal Haasan

December 26, 2006 - For once the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai seemed to be 'Kollywood', since many cine stars turned up Saturday evening for the grand finale of Reliance Mobile Vijay Awards, an awards ceremony for the stars chosen by the best jury, the audience.
Actor Kamal Haasan received the first- ever 'Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan Award for Excellence in Cinema' for his immense contribution to Tamil cinema from veteran actress Saroja Devi, at the mega awards distribution function.
After receiving the award, Kamal said director K Balachandar and actor Nagesh had pushed him to achieve this. Remembering his association with actor- wizard Sivaji Ganesan, Kamal said that he aspired to give away the award to another eligible artiste in the days to come.
Also the two other awards 'Superstar of Tomorrow' and 'Youth Icon of the year' for actors Vijay receiving from Kamal Haasan and Vikram receiving from Sathyaraj and Khushboo respectively for they have made a mark among today's youth.
The other recipients with their categories in brackets: Kannal Kannan (Stunt), P C Sree Ram (cinematographer), Sabu Siril (Art), Chinnathambi (Background Painter), S P Balasubramanian (Male Playback singer), Janaki (Female Playback singer), Vivek (All Time Favourite Comedian), Prabhu Deva (Choreographer), K S Ravikumar (Director), Devar Magan (Favourite Film), Ajith (Favourite Hero), Trisha (Favourite Heroine).
Many who's who of Kollywood had come for not only honouring the winners and applauding the nominees on Reliance Mobile Vijay awards but to receive prestigious awards.
Amidst exquisite sets, the show witnessed the performance of the hot and ravishing Yana Gupta from Bollywood along with the southern belles Lakshmi Rai, Preyamani and Ragasiya.
