BJP pressure against Indo-US nuclear agreement not justified: NIA
MIL/NIA release, Dec 11, 2006.
New Delhi, 11 December 2006 - Domestic pressure against the Indo-US nuclear agreement seems to be building up with the BJP on Sunday. National Integration Assembly (NIA) has assailed here today the BJP for their unjust demand against the UPA Government to reject the US Senate Act.
Dr. Raj Baldev, Chairman National Integration Assembly (NIA), World Peace Mission body, that the opposition by the BJP has no logical stand, they are opposing just for opposition sake. Dr. Baldev accused former Union Minister Yashwant Singh Sinha for erecting an unfounded stand.
“With the Act passed by the US legislature, India gets stronger in many respects and there is no question of compromising the independence of our foreign policy or toeing the line of the US with regard to Iran. It also doesn’t affects India’s technological advancement in this critical area” Dr. Raj Baldev said.
“Dr. Raj Baldev said, “It looks as if the BJP or such like mind political factions havae not studied the Act minutely before condemning it. There is not even a single clause that goes against the interest of our country.
"Where there could be some doubt, Condoleeza Rice has already clarified in her statement that the United States stands committed to their obligation made to India as per the joint statement made on July 18th and March 2. After the statement of Rice, the NIA sees no reason of being panicky and humiliating our own country unnecessarily," Dr. Raj Baldev said.
