Arjun Singh adamant on quota, students continue protest

Chandigarh- The word of Human resource development minister Arjun Singh, who apologized to medical students for being were manhandled outside his house did not convince the students, and they continue protesting against the reservation policy.
Over 100 MBBS students of the Government Medical College, 32, took to the streets on Thursday, formed a human chain and shouted slogans at the reservation policy. They blamed that the govt. is trying to play a divide and rule, but we not want to be divided, some banners indicated:
The protesters carried the banners written thereon:"Youth for equality," "Do not divide and rule".
The students thereafter submitted a memorandum to the UT adviser and the governor. As the students' anger mounted, they burnt an effigy of HRD minister Arjun Singh and shouted Arjun Singh, hai hai. One student said," He is spoiling the name of Sonia Gandhi".
With slogans against the proposed hike in reservation to 49.5% rending the air, the peaceful protest started from Matka Chowk and culminated at the secretariat.
Human resource development minister Arjun Singh apologised to medical students who were manhandled outside his house yesterday but he did not give any assurance on reviewing the decision to step up reservations in educational institutions, including IIMs, IITs and medical colleges.
