Emergency successful operation performed on Mahajan
MIL/Agencies, Apr 23, 2006.
BJP General Secretary Pramod Mahajan, who was shot at by his younger brother, Pravin Mahajan, on Saturday morning, continues to be critical. He has undergone another operation. This was an emergency operation and medically reported successful. The damage to the liver is reported to be not as grave as thought to be.
Hinduja Hospital's doctors described Mahajan's condition as critical but stable. According to hospital report the pressure packs on his liver was removed and there is no active bleeding from the liver.
Doctors said that Mahajan had to be operated because his vital parameters became unstable. Earlier in the day he had shown signs of consciousness, his bleeding had stopped and that had prompted the team of medical doctors to operate on him on Monday morning.
The operation was meant to remove the packing around his liver which was placed to reduce its bleeding.
Earlier, doctors say there are chances of Mahajan's recovery if they can control the bleeding. Special care is being taken to control his blood sugar levels as Mahajan is a diabetic patient. Surgeons from the United Kingdom have arrived in Mumbai to treat the BJP general secretary.
Several VIPs visited the hospital on Saturday night including actor Amitabh Bachchan with wife Jaya and Anil Ambani. Mukesh Ambani also visited the hospital. Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley and Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh checked on Mahajan too.
