India Pakistan aptly shares the honor of DLF Trophy
MIL/Agencies, Apr 20, 2006.
Abu Dhabi - India beat Pakistan by 51 runs in the second one-day international in Abu Dhabi, UAE to claim a share of the DLF Trophy. Since Pakistan had won the first DLF Cup match on 18th April by six wickets, the Cup was a credit to both the teams who own each match.
Indian captain Rahul Dravid hit 92 to help his side total 269-5. He got a wicket of Inzamam-ul-Haq for 79 by hitting the stump in time and carried the ball in excitement. He ran with the ball on the ground for a long distance to share and enjoy celebration with his teammates.
It was an historic display of celebration and enjoyment when he stumped Inzamam's wicket.
Dravid won the toss, opted to bat, and made sure the decision was correct by sharing a 138-run opening partnership with Virender Sehwag.
Sehwag struck ten fours and a six during his 73 from 83 balls before being bowled by Shahid Afridi's (1-39) leg-spin. Mahendra Dhoni (59) came in at number three and put on 90 with Dravid. The pair disappointed the Pak bowlers who could not stand before their speedy runs.
Dravid fell eight short of a century when Mohammad Asif (1-57) bowled him, but Yuvraj Singh's 24 from 10 balls ensured India reached a healthy total.
In reply, Pakistan made a poor start by losing Imran Farhat (8), Shahid Afridi (0) and Younis Khan (5) during the opening 12 overs.
And although Inzamam made 79 from 91 balls, his team were never in the hunt and were bowled out for 218 in just 45.2 overs.
Left-arm seamer Irfan Pathan (3-35) and off-spinner Ramesh Powar (3-61) each took three wickets for India.
