Naxalism is gravest internal threat to India: PM

New Delhi -  As the situation goes, most of the districts in India are under the grip of Naxalites.  This is a great concern for all states of the country. Over 160 districts are reported to be slipping away from the State's control and the Naxalites are becoming the masters. They are believed to be aided by vested interests outside the country.

Manmohan Singh said a few words that  the ever-growing menace of Naxalism has become national concern.  He said in plain words, " it has become the most serious internal security threat". Specifically he added :

"It would not be an exaggeration to say that the problem of Naxalism is the single biggest internal security challenge ever faced by our country," the PM, however stressed a need to treat this issues on high priority. 

While speaking at a conclave of CMs and representatives of 13 Naxal-hit states which make up over one-fourth of India's area, savaged Naxalites, the PM said,  "The ideological base of the movement has diminished and there are many lumpen elements now in the movement."

The gathering, coinciding with a spurt in high-profile assaults including raids on jails and hijacking of trains, had Manmohan Singh swearing by the time-tested strategy of "walking on two legs" in recognizing Naxalism was not merely a law and order issue, but one that is directly related to underdevelopment as per TNN.
