Ill treatment given to Salman after verdict and in Jodhpur Jail
MIL/Ed., Apr 11, 2006.
The treatment of Jodhpur Jail to Salman Khan seems to be juse like a special torture cell for him. Indian jails are notoriously overcrowded with lack of very basic amenities and the treatment of the staff is always injurious and hurting to the accused irrespective of the class of people and the permissible laws and human values.
Jodhpur is normally known for its hurtful treatment. But it was not expected that they would mistreat Salman Khan with a view to just harrowing him.
He was just served with plain flat bread, vegetable curry and given an earthware jar of unhealthy water like other prisoners. The water provided in jail is always unhealthy. Salman was not even allowed to ring his mother Salma, who was collapsed and was hospitalized after the verdict.
Salman was not treated even on humane grounds. Khan's mother was under observation in Bombay's Lilavati Hospital after she complained of chest pain, the hospital reported.
Our law is not at par in terms of classes of the prisoners who are sent to jail. The Supreme Court has since abolished special classes even for highly educated people and Income Tax Payees except for politicians.
Over and above, the people looked upon the intentions of the jail personnel as doubtful, when they took Salman to Jodhpur jail. Salman and his fans did not expect VIP treatment from Jodhpur Jail staff, but at least a normal behavior was anticipated and that too was denied. The people do not like the abolishing of special categories for Income Tax Payees and for highly educated people, this is the general view of the people of all classes.
The people with high-class style of living are not accustomed to a treatment as meted out to them in jails. Some one should go to Supreme Court and file a PIL to get the earlier order reversed in case of special classes.
Firstly, the people were angry to read the sentence of five years. When asked from the people, 95% people said, it is too much, our laws must change in terms of wild life, are we comparing animal with a human being?
Some people said that certain people at the justice chair should be reasonable enough not to jump so high while announcing punishment against the celebrities. The question arose why a request for cross-examining of a special witness was denied. However, this point shall most certainly help Salman in the appeal.
The learned Judge should have also considered another point that Bollywood would incur a loss of more than 150 crore. Salman could have been fined heavily instead of sentencing to 5 years rigorous imprisonment. Is it not very heavy? In appeal, people hope that something shall happen in favor of Salman.
It is upto the govt., judiciary and more on some one who could dare file a PIL in the Supreme Court that automatic allotment of special classes as per status with permission to get food from home should be granted to the deserving people, who pay taxes. The Bollywood stars pay in crores and that help run the economy of the country.
