A posting on an Islamic web site on Saturday claimed that an al-Qaeda-linked group has killed British hostage Kenneth Bigley. The claim could not be confirmed immediately.
'Tawhid and Jihad announces that it has executed the British citizen and gives you the good news of kidnapping seven British soldiers,' the statement said. 'We will be releasing the tape shortly,' said the single line statement comprising of two sentences that was typed in red.
However, British Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are aware of the site called alezah which is running that story, but it is a discredited website. We don’t think it is to be taken seriously at this point.”
He was kidnapped on Septemtember 16, with two US hostages Eugene Armstrong and Jack Hensley, who have since been killed.
So far, at least 26 hostages have been killed out of more than 140 foreigners that have been kidnapped in Iraq.
