Russia presses Iran to accept UNSC advice without any hitch
MIL/Agencies, Mar 31, 2006.
Moscow - Russian Foreign Ministry has put a diplomatic pressure on Iran on Thursday carefully to examine the statement recently adopted by the UN Security Council on its nuclear program.
"We urge the Iranian authorities to carefully listen to the unanimous opinion of UN Security Council members and thus seek cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on all remaining issues."
At the same time, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in Berlin on Thursday that Iran should not have any apprehension that its program would be affected if it conceded the advise of the UN Security Council. He further clarified that Iran on the contrary could exercise its right to develop peaceful nuclear energy under the condition of full cooperation with the UN's nuclear watchdog.
"We would like to resolve the problem by diplomatic means, but this requires Iran's full cooperation with the IAEA. In this case, Iran will be able to fully use the opportunities of its legal right to peaceful nuclear energy development," RIA Novosti news agency quoted him as saying as per UNI. He said the foreign ministers of the European 'Troika' (Germany, Britain and France), the United States, Russia and China had expressed concern over Iran's nuclear program during the meeting in Berlin as per the Hindu.
